ROOMBA 761 vs 650: THE POWER IN SMALL UNITS ?

House cleaning is never an enjoyable task, especially to busy people. Have you ever felt sick of doing the household chores every day? Or too tired to vacuum multiple rooms? So why not let a robotic vacuum give you a helping hand. Vacuum cleaners which can operate automatically are not new. They are now capable and affordable than ever. Whether you’re interested in latest tech, hate cleaning or hesitate to carry vacuum cleaner around (regardless the reasons), robot vacuums are always fun to watch and get boring cleaning tasks done. To be fair, robotic vacuums are known as not good as ordinary vacuum cleaners in terms of suction power and capacity. Hence, if that’s all your care about, you should go for a good upright vacuum cleaner. I highly recommend some best Shark vacuums or Bissell . However, robotic vacs can provide you with convenience and clean floor with minimal effort. Some comes with remote control and schedule setting for you if you’re not at home.

Roomba is a series of automatic vacuum cleaner and perhaps the best well-known name out there. With the cool designs and guaranteed quality, Roomba models are always in top favorite list of customers. Currently, iRobot has produced Roomba 900s which represent the latest technology and maximize the function of smart vacuum cleaner. Although Roomba 761 vs 650 is the early generation, they are top notch units and two of the best in the market. These are two vacuums with intelligent programming and highly sophisticated technologies.

This is my third review of Roombas (the other two are Roomba 805 vs 860 and Roomba 805 vs 880), so enjoy!

Roomba 761 vs 650: Comparison And Review

Roomba 761 and 650 belong to different series, 700 and 600 respectively. From 600 to 700, iRobot makes a big change as it adds more state of the art technologies to Roomba 761. Let’s see what features they have in common and how they are different for you to choose.

The Design

It seems that iRobot has no intention of changing its typical shape for Roomba models. It’s still loyal to the circular design with minor changes on the surface. While Roomba 761 is available in silver color, Roomba 650 comes with black one. The colors seem fine to me because I think black or silver is very attractive and gives out strong vibe. Both of them have a greenish “CLEAN” button in the middle of the machines for turning on/off. Compared to Roomba 761, the 650 has more extra buttons on the surface, which is understandable as Roomba 761 comes with a remote control.

The Portability

In terms of weight and dimensions, Roomba 761 is larger and heavier (Roomba 650: 11.7 pounds and 13.4×3.6×13.4 inches; Roomba 761: 14.6 pounds and 5.6x19x21.5 inches). However, the difference is not big so their portability is pretty much the same. In addition, both of them are equipped with iAdapt Navigation which allows the machines to navigate through the floor and overcome obstacles without disrupting the cleaning process.

The Cleaning Performance

I spend a large amount of reviewing the cleaning capabilities of each product because I know how important it is when it comes to vacuum cleaners.

The Features :

  • Like traditional Roombas, Roomba 761 vs 650 feature an AeroForce 3-stage cleaning system which provides the ultimate way to clean effectively any surface by a combination of agitating dirt, brushing and high-powered vacuum suction. This system guarantees no dust or dirt left behind before the machines move on.
  • Roomba 761 vs 650 use AeroVac technology that maximizes airflow to pull hair or fur in the AeroVac bin, which reduces dustbin emptying frequency and results in a more uniform fill. Moreover, the brush design is enhanced in these models so that hair doesn’t get stuck on the brushes.
  • All iRobot Roombas use the iAdapt Responsive Navigation Technology-a complex system of sensors and software. This feature allows the units to clean efficiently and adapt to changes in your home. Thanks to it, the robotic vacuums provide behaviors at 60 times per second and they will find it easier to clean rooms and do multiple passes each time.

The Difference :

  • The special thing about Roomba 761 and 650 is they come with control equipment. The integration of Wi-Fi into the Roomba 650 is software design is an advanced step. You can control like setting the schedule or functions of your unit with the iRobot app. Although Roomba 761 doesn’t have the Wi-Fi connection, it comes with a remote control. It is more convenient as you don’t have to depend on a Wi-Fi connection to control over the bot.
  • Another difference between Roomba 761 vs 650 is that the former is equipped with HEPA filtration system. You may have heard of this advanced filters as they efficiently remove tiny particles and allergens in the air. Hence, Roomba 761 may be perfect choice for allergy suffers.

The Price

After reading all the above information, you can guess which one will be higher in terms of price. That’s right! Roomba 761 is about 50$-$100 more expensive than Roomba 650, depending on stores. Robotic vacuums usually cost more compared to ordinary vacuum cleaners. Anyway, check specific price from this link below.

The Feedback

In general, Roomba 761 and 650 receive positive feedbacks from the customers. Here’s what they said on Amazon.

Roomba 650 is rated 4.4 out of 5 stars-that’s pretty impressive. Up to 70% of the customers voted 5 stars for this piece of equipment. They left comments for praising how well the 650 fought against fur and how clean the floors were after they return from work. However, there’s a major flaw: its small dustbin.

“It’s worth every penny”, this is the most liked comment about Roomba 761. Approximately 80% of the customer rated it 5 stars as it worked wonders on cleaning fur of dog and cats. In addition, it did a good job on all surfaces and in a fast manner. One disappointment is its fairly loud noise.

The Conclusion

Both performs very well when tested about cleaning tasks. Some people may prefer Roomba 761 due to the remote control or HEPA filters. Others might choose Roomba 650 because of lower prices or the ability to link to Roomba 650 via Wi-Fi. Regardless of which one you choose, I just want to say that they’re totally worth your investment.
