I personally don’t like the NV500’s look, yet in this case, I have to admit that I prefer the NV500 to the NV400. They have completely different deigns, yet the color combination is similar. Both come with red and white colors. The NV500 comes with a more elegant body. However, if you take a closer look, the NV400 is actually taller as compared to its sibling, the NV500, 45.5 and 29.7 inches. Being tall is actually advantageous because you won’t have to bend down while cleaning. Both vacuum cleaners are designed with long cord for convenient movement. Another plus point of their design is that they both have transparent dirt cups, so that you can easily notice when it is full and need being emptied.
Even though the NV400 looks a bit clumsy, it is much lighter than the NV500. While the NV400 weighs about 15.8 pounds, the other is 21.1 pounds. Hence, it will be much easier to carry the NV400 around. Yet, it doesn’t mean it is hard for use to operate the NV500. Don’t worry, Shark equipped Shark NV400 vs NV500 with swivel steering which facilitate their movement around obstacles.
Their long stretch hoses allow you to reach over the stairs, around and under furniture. Besides, with a long cord, you can just plug the switch on one place and go around with the vacuum cleaner without interruption.
Shark was complained about the lack of wheels in canister mode in previous models, which means you have to carry the vacuum every time you need to move it around. However, in the NV500 case, the Shark has been really listening to its consumers as it added a caddy that truly make this a canister vacuum you can drag around with little effort. If you look underneath the caddy, you can see 4 wheels which are able to turn 360 degree. It seems like moving the vacuums around can’t be any simpler.
The Cleaning Performance
Vacuum performance depends greatly on how effectively air passes through the unit and flows through filters. Thus, the capability of drawing dust filled air and then separating the dust and dirt before expelling clean air is the definition of an excellent-performance vacuum. Let’s start out by looking at how Shark NV400 vs NV500 are similar and different in the way they clean our house.
The second different point between these vacuum lies in the accessories.
The NV500 comes with the following tools: multi-tool, standard power brush, 18” flexi crevice tool, straight suction nozzle and canister caddy. It is ideal for pet owners as they can get premium pet hair power brush.
Shark NV400 includes a dusting brush, 18” crevice tool and 1 large turbo brush.
According to Amazon, the NV500 is fairly more costly than the NV400. The gap may be the result of extra tools and the 3-in-1 lift-away function which is a huge plus for a traditional upright.

Shark NV400 receives 4.2 stars on Amazon. Literally, the machine worked wonder on different floors. The NV400 easily picked up the hair from carpets, sofas and cushions. People were satisfied with the suction on the hose which was nice and powerful. Yet, sometimes it gets clogged.
The NV500 receives pretty good feedback from customers. 70% of Amazon buyer rate it 5 stars (out of 5). In general, they are happy with the quality, especially a fantastic machine for that price. In addition, many people love it for lightweight and versatility. However, there is still one drawback. It has quite small dustbin which requires frequency of emptying.
Shark NV400 vs NV500, generally, show accepting performance on different types of floors. They may not be as sophisticated as Shark’s latest models, yet they are strong, powerful enough to eliminate tough dust and dirt, but also light and smooth enough for you to slide them around without causing any trouble. The difference lies in accessories and a few more functions of the NV500, which also leads to an increase in its price.
